Working quickly and intensively using found chicken wire, eyes closed, smiling and humming. I spent time just being around the form, touching it, feeling it, turning and testing until once more into action, wrapping it, enclosing it, with plaster bandage capturing the form into solidity. From there into painting with gestures and motifs, jabs and strokes; bronze and blue, colours of earth, sea and sky.
Memories of the sea—its rhythms, ruptures, and resonances. Exposing the mesh to suggest both containment and flow, while the solidity of plaster / the “weight” of bronze, evoking sediment and shoreline. Can you imagine the sounding of a conch shell echoing across vast distances welcoming home or warning away; a place of shelter, of hidden depths and intrigue. Motifs on the surface from memory, from feeling, from dreams - a tactile meditation on elemental movement and embodied listening.
ECHOES OF THE SEA series: Fabrications of seas and oceans; rocks and waves and creatures, and sounds and smells and feelings; under, over and on top of. I let my body, my spirit, sink into the making, guiding my hands to shape forms. #sensuouspractice
